The best DocuSign alternative for a small business depends on one number: how many people send documents. For one sender, SignWell Light ($120 a year) and Dropbox Sign Essentials ($120.60 a year) cost about a third of a DocuSign Standard seat. For a team where each person sends under their own login, BoldSign Business at $15 per user a month and SignWell Business at $360 a year for three senders undercut DocuSign sharply. For an office where one desk sends a high volume, a flat per-account plan such as SignSend Pro at $490 a year removes the envelope count entirely.

Every price below was read from the vendor's own pricing page on September 29, 2026, except PandaDoc (September 16) and DocuSign (September 26). All figures are yearly billing unless marked, because that is the cycle every one of these vendors discounts.

What does DocuSign cost a small business today?

DocuSign Standard, the plan most small businesses buy, is $30 per user a month on an annual commitment, or $360 a year per seat, with 100 envelopes per seat per year. Business Pro is $45 per seat. Personal is $11 a month for a single user with 5 envelopes a month. Every alternative in this article is measured against those numbers. The full plan-by-plan breakdown, including overage and team totals, is on our DocuSign for small business page.

Month to month, most of these rise by a fifth to two thirds. Dropbox Sign Essentials goes to $15, SignWell Light to $12, BoldSign Business to $25 per user, and DocuSign Standard to $45 per user. SignSend Pro is $49 month to month.

What does each alternative cost for 1, 3 and 10 senders?

Seat counts change the ranking more than anything else, so here is the same comparison at three team sizes, on yearly billing. Each cell is the cheapest plan from that vendor that covers the team without a sending cap below 50 a month per person.

Tool1 sender3 senders10 senders
DocuSign Standard$360$1,080$3,600
Dropbox Sign$120.60 (Essentials)$630 (Standard)Quote only (Premium, 5 or more users)
SignWell$120 (Light)$360 (Business)$1,368 (Business plus 7 senders)
BoldSign$60 (Growth) or $180 (Business)$540 (Business)$1,800 (Business)
PandaDoc Starter$228$684$2,280
SignSend Pro$490$490, one shared login$490, one shared login

Two things stand out. First, for one person who sends, three alternatives cost less than half of a DocuSign seat, and SignSend is not one of them. Second, if every person on a team of three needs their own login, SignWell Business at $360 a year is the cheapest route to unlimited documents in this group. SignSend's $490 only wins where the sending genuinely runs through one login, which is a real pattern but not a universal one.

Which DocuSign alternative is best for a small business?

There is no single winner, so here is who each tool fits, in plain terms.

SignWell, best for a small team that each sends their own documents

SignWell Business covers three senders for $360 a year with unlimited documents and unlimited templates, and additional senders are $12 a month on yearly billing. For a three to five person office that needs separate logins, nothing on this list beats it on price. The free tier sends 3 documents a month, which is enough to test the signing flow and not enough to run a business on.

Dropbox Sign, best for one person who wants a familiar name

Essentials at $120.60 a year with unlimited signature requests is the cheapest recognizable brand for a sole proprietor. Standard, at $17.50 per user with a two user minimum, tops out at five users before Premium goes to a quote. Paying Essentials month to month costs $15, which is 49 percent more than the yearly rate. Our HelloSign pricing page covers what former HelloSign customers now pay.

BoldSign, best for the lowest per-user price

BoldSign Business at $15 per user a month on yearly billing is the cheapest unlimited per-seat plan here, and Growth at $5 per user covers 50 envelopes a month. Premium at $99 a month allows unlimited users but caps the whole account at 250 envelopes a month, so it suits a large team with modest volume rather than a busy one.

PandaDoc, best if proposals are the real job

PandaDoc Starter at $19 per user a month makes sense when you build quotes and proposals with pricing tables and want the signature at the end. If you only sign PDFs you already have, you are paying for a document builder you will not use. The PandaDoc pricing breakdown covers Business at $49 per user.

SignSend, best when one desk sends a lot

SignSend prices the account, not the seat. Pro is $49 a month or $490 a year with unlimited documents and unlimited signers on each one. You upload a PDF up to 20MB, add the people who have to sign, set the signing order and a deadline if you need one, and send. Signers open the link on any device with no account, and the signed PDF comes back with an audit trail (signer, timestamp and IP) and a certificate of completion, valid under the ESIGN Act and state UETA laws. Business at $99 a month adds bulk send to up to 200 recipients.

It fits the office manager sending onboarding packets all week, the leasing coordinator sending for several agents, the bookkeeper sending every engagement letter. It does not offer templates, integrations, an API or signer identity checks, so a team that needs those should look at the per-seat tools above.

How much can a small business save by leaving DocuSign?

On yearly billing, a sole proprietor moving from one Standard seat to SignWell Light or Dropbox Sign Essentials saves about $240 a year. A three seat Standard account moving to SignWell Business saves $720. The largest saving comes from volume rather than seats: one Standard seat sending 300 documents a year pays about $1,080 once DocuSign's published pay-as-you-go overage of $3.60 an envelope is added, against $490 on a flat account. Our DocuSign Standard plan page shows the overage math at every volume.

Is there a free DocuSign alternative for small business?

Several vendors have a free tier, and each one is capped: SignWell Free sends 3 documents a month and BoldSign Essential sends 25 a month for one user. They work for trying a tool. A business that sends agreements every week will pass those caps in the first month, which is the point of them. SignSend has no free plan; a new account gets one free document for the life of the account so you can send a real agreement before paying.

What to check before you switch

Count senders, not employees, because signers never need a seat anywhere. Count last quarter's documents and multiply by four. Check whether you rely on DocuSign templates or integrations, because rebuilding them is the real switching cost. And do not confuse the two kinds of signature a small business buys: e-signature tools collect legally binding signatures on documents, while email signature software that sets one template for the whole company handles the block at the bottom of every email. Plenty of owners search for one while needing the other.

If most of your sending runs through one person and the envelope count is what hurts, upload a PDF at the top of this page and send your first document on SignSend. If every person needs their own login, start with SignWell or BoldSign. See the full DocuSign alternative comparison for more options.
