How to Cancel a SignWell Subscription and Keep Signing for Less

To cancel a SignWell subscription, stop the renewal from your online account management page, or email SignWell support and ask them to do it. SignWell's terms treat cancellation as stopping the next automatic renewal, and they say refunds are generally not issued. The one exception is a request made within 30 days of the subscription when no document has been executed on it.
That second sentence is the part people miss. A team that bought a yearly plan on Monday and sent its first contract on Tuesday has already used up the refund window. This guide covers how cancelling works, what you keep, what the refund terms say in SignWell's own words, and what a small team pays to keep signing somewhere else without a per-sender bill.
How do I cancel SignWell?
SignWell's terms of service say you may cancel your subscription renewal through your online account management page or by contacting its customer support team. Notices to SignWell go by email to [email protected]. We could not find a step-by-step cancellation article on SignWell's help center to quote, so we are not going to invent menu names. Open your account, look for the billing or subscription area, and turn off renewal there. If the option is missing, email support from the address on the account.
- Log in as the person who pays. Billing sits with the account that bought the plan, so an invited sender may not see it.
- Find the billing or subscription page and stop the renewal. Screenshot the confirmation or keep the email SignWell sends.
- If you cannot find the control, email [email protected] with the account email, the plan name and the date you were billed.
- Check the next billing date. The terms say a subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing cycle unless it is cancelled, so cancel before that date, not on it.
Does SignWell refund a cancelled subscription?
Rarely. The terms say SignWell generally does not issue refunds, and that it will consider one only if two things are true: the request is submitted within the first 30 days of the subscription, and no documents, agreements or other legal instruments were executed using that subscription. In practice a team that has actually used the plan is outside the window.
The free trial follows its own rule. SignWell may offer a trial at its discretion, and where billing details were entered at signup, the card is charged the day after the trial ends unless you cancel first. It can also change or stop the trial offer at any time. If you started a trial to compare tools, put the end date in a calendar.
What do I keep after cancelling SignWell?
The Free plan sends three documents a month from one sender, with one template, an audit trail and an API. Before you cancel, download every completed PDF and its audit certificate, because those are your record if a signature is ever questioned. Templates do not move between e-signature tools, so keep a clean PDF of each agreement you will need to rebuild.
What does SignWell cost, so you know what you are cancelling?
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Extra sender |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light | $10 a month ($120 a year) | $12 a month | $10 a month |
| Business | $30 a month ($360 a year) | $36 a month | $12 a month |
Light includes one sender and Business includes three. A team of five senders on Business pays $648 a year, and ten senders pay $1,368. If the bill grew because the sender count did, the full breakdown is on our SignWell pricing page, and the yearly saving is unpacked on SignWell coupon code.
What should I switch to?
It depends on why you are leaving. If SignWell is simply the wrong size for one person, stay on Free or Light. If the per-sender add-ons are what pushed the bill up, a flat account is the cheaper shape. SignSend Pro is $49 a month or $288 a year for the whole account, up to 3 people, with unlimited documents and an audit trail and certificate on each. Business is $99 a month or $588 a year for up to 10 people and adds bulk send. Your first document is free.
SignWell does several things SignSend does not, and you should keep it if you rely on them: an API on every plan, saved document layouts, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA support, and files other than PDF. Our SignWell alternative page lists where each tool wins. And if the reason you are signing is a contract you have not fully read, a tool that can review the clauses in a contract before you sign it is a better first stop than any signature app.
How do I switch from SignWell without losing anything?
- Finish or void open requests. Anything still out for signature should be completed before you stop the plan.
- Download completed documents and certificates. Keep both, they are the proof.
- Save templates as PDFs. You will rebuild them on the new tool.
- Send one real document on the new tool. The first SignSend document is free, so you can see the whole flow before paying.
- Cancel SignWell before the renewal date. Yearly plans are paid in advance, so cancelling early does not refund the year but does stop the next one.
Can I cancel SignWell at any time?
Yes, the renewal can be stopped at any time. SignWell's terms tie the end of service to the end of the billing cycle you have paid for, and they allow SignWell to change subscription fees with reasonable prior notice at the start of a new cycle. That notice is your cue to decide, not a reason to wait.
Should I downgrade to the Free plan instead of cancelling?
If your volume has dropped below three documents a month, yes. The Free plan keeps one sender, one template, the audit trail and the API, so nothing you already built disappears, and the bill stops. Think of cancelling outright as the move for a team that has decided on a different tool. Think of the Free plan as the move for a team that only sends in bursts, such as a seasonal business with a busy quarter and a quiet one. In both cases, record the date the renewal would have charged, so you can see in the next statement that it did not.
One more habit saves money: cancel the renewal the day you decide, even if you will keep using the plan until the cycle ends. The terms keep the paid period in place, and the decision cannot slip past the billing date while everyone is busy.
