How to Cancel a Zoho Sign Subscription and Switch to Cheaper E-Signature Software
October 15, 2026
Need to get a document signed?
Upload a PDF, add your signers, and send it in minutes with SignSend.
To cancel a Zoho Sign subscription, sign in as the account owner, open Settings, then Subscription details, choose Change Plan, scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Subscription. Pick a reason, click Move to Free Edition, and decide whether the downgrade happens now or at the end of the billing cycle. Your account drops to the Free plan with your data intact.
Two details decide how this goes. Only the portal owner, the admin who pays, can change or cancel the plan, so a regular user will not see the button. And Zoho's refund windows are short and fixed: 45 days on a new yearly plan, the first month on a monthly one, and a few days after a renewal you forgot to stop. Below are the steps, the refund rules in Zoho's own words, what you keep on the Free plan, and what a small team pays to keep signing somewhere else.

How do I cancel my Zoho Sign subscription?
Zoho Sign is billed through the Zoho Store, the same checkout every Zoho app uses, so the cancel flow is the store's flow. Zoho Sign's administrator guide puts the plan controls under Settings, in Subscription details, and lists subscription management as an admin-only permission.
- Sign in to Zoho Sign with the account that owns the subscription.
- Open Settings and go to Subscription details (or open Manage Subscription for Zoho Sign in the Zoho Store).
- Click Change Plan to open the plan page.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Subscription.
- Select a reason for cancelling, then click Move to Free Edition.
- Choose the timing. Leave the checkbox unchecked to downgrade right away, or check it to keep the paid plan until the current billing cycle ends.
- Wait for the confirmation that the subscription was downgraded.
If you want the paid features until the period you already bought runs out, tick the end-of-cycle box. Unticked means the downgrade is immediate, and an immediate downgrade on a yearly plan does not turn into cash on its own (see the refund section below).
Who can cancel a Zoho Sign subscription?
Only the portal owner, the organization administrator who is also the payment owner. Zoho Sign's pricing FAQ says that person is the only one allowed to upgrade the account, and the administrator guide treats downgrades, add-ons and changing the payment owner the same way. If the person who set up Zoho Sign has left the company, an admin first has to make someone else the payment owner, then cancel from that account.
| Your role | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Portal owner and payment owner | Change plan, cancel, manage add-ons, change payment owner |
| Admin who is not the payment owner | Manage users and settings, but plan changes go through the payment owner |
| Regular user | No subscription controls; ask the owner |
Does Zoho Sign give refunds when you cancel?
Sometimes, inside fixed windows set by Zoho's company-wide refund policy, which covers Zoho Sign like every other Zoho app. Outside those windows the answer is no, including prorated refunds.
| Situation | Zoho's rule | Window |
|---|---|---|
| New monthly plan | Full refund and downgrade to the free plan if you are still unhappy after Zoho tries to fix the problem | The first month |
| New yearly plan | Full refund if you are still dissatisfied | First 45 days |
| Monthly renewal you forgot to cancel | Full refund on request | Five business days after the renewal |
| Yearly renewal you forgot to cancel | Full refund on request | 15 days after the renewal |
| Yearly plan, fewer licenses or a lower edition mid-term | Credit as a subscription extension, not cash | Any time |
| Account suspended for a terms violation | No refund, full or prorated | Never |
The policy says refund requests are not processed after these periods. It also gives the formula for the mid-term credit: total amount paid minus the monthly list price times the number of months used, with any discount left out of the calculation. In plain terms, months you used on a discounted yearly plan are charged back at the full monthly rate before the credit is worked out. Refund requests go to [email protected], and Zoho lists [email protected] for cancellation questions.
What happens to my documents after I cancel Zoho Sign?
The account stays open on the Free plan, and Zoho says your account and data remain accessible after the downgrade. Free is one user and 5 envelopes a month. That is enough to download completed documents and finish anything still out for signature, and not much else. A team of three loses two seats the moment the downgrade lands, so export what each person needs before you cancel, not after.
Zoho Sign subscriptions renew automatically, monthly or yearly, until you cancel. Zoho emails you before and after each renewal, which is your cue: if the email arrives and you meant to leave, you have five business days on monthly billing and 15 days on yearly to ask for the money back.
What does a small team switch to after Zoho Sign?
Most teams leave Zoho Sign for one of two reasons. The Standard plan caps each user at 25 envelopes a month, which pushes regular senders to Professional, and every new sender adds a full seat. Here is what three senders pay a year at published US prices.
| Option, billed yearly | Three senders | Documents |
|---|---|---|
| Zoho Sign Standard | $360 | 25 envelopes per user a month |
| Zoho Sign Professional | $576 | Unlimited |
| Zoho Sign Enterprise | $792 | Unlimited, plus bulk send |
| BoldSign Business | $540 | Unlimited |
| SignSend Pro | $288 for the account | Unlimited |
Zoho Sign is $10, $16 and $22 per user a month on yearly billing, or $12, $20 and $28 month to month, and we keep the full breakdown on our Zoho Sign pricing page. For one person, Zoho Sign Professional at $192 a year is cheaper than SignSend, and we would not tell a solo user to switch. From two senders up, a flat plan costs less: SignSend Pro is $49 a month or $288 a year for up to 3 people with unlimited documents and signers, templates and signing order. Business at $99 a month or $588 a year covers 10 people and adds bulk send to up to 200 recipients.
What SignSend does not do is worth saying before you move: there is no API, no SMS delivery and no identity verification, all of which Zoho Sign sells. If your workflow depends on those, compare the vendors that offer them on our Zoho Sign alternatives page, which prices eight tools for a three-person team. Whichever way you go, it helps to know the renewal dates of every tool before they bill, and a spend alert that flags a SaaS charge before it lands is a cheaper habit than a refund request.
How do I switch from Zoho Sign without losing anything?
- Finish or recall open requests. Anything still out for signature should be completed on Zoho Sign before the downgrade.
- Download completed documents and certificates. Each signed PDF and its completion certificate is your record if a signature is ever questioned.
- Save your templates as PDFs. Templates do not transfer between e-signature tools. Keep a clean copy of each agreement to rebuild it.
- Send one real document on the new tool. SignSend gives every new account one free document, so you can watch the whole flow work before you pay.
- Cancel Zoho Sign with the end-of-cycle box ticked. You keep the paid plan until the period you bought runs out, then drop to Free.
Can I cancel Zoho Sign at any time?
Yes. Zoho Sign's pricing FAQ calls it a pay-as-you-go service that you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period unless you are inside one of the windows above. If you are on a yearly plan past day 45, the end-of-cycle option is the one that gets you what you paid for.
