How to Cancel Adobe Acrobat Pro Subscription and Switch to Flat-Rate E-Signature Software
October 2, 2026
Need to get a document signed?
Upload a PDF, add your signers, and send it in minutes with SignSend.
To cancel an Adobe Acrobat Pro subscription, sign in to your Adobe account, open Plans and payment, select Manage plan next to Acrobat Pro, then Cancel your plan, pick a reason, review the cancellation details and select Confirm cancellation. Cancel within 14 days of your first order and Adobe refunds you in full. After that, an annual plan billed monthly charges a fee of 50 percent of the remaining contract.
Those are the steps on Adobe's own help page and the fee is in Adobe's US subscription terms. The rest of this guide covers the three billing types and what each costs to leave, how a teams admin cancels, what to download before your access ends, and what a replacement costs if the main thing your office used Acrobat Pro for was getting documents signed.
How do I cancel my Adobe Acrobat Pro subscription?
If you bought Acrobat Pro from Adobe directly, you cancel it from your Adobe account in a browser.
- Sign in at account.adobe.com with the account that pays for Acrobat Pro.
- In the Plans and payment window, select Manage plan next to Acrobat Pro.
- Select Cancel your plan. If the button is missing, Adobe may be processing a payment; its help page says to wait 24 hours and try again.
- Check the plan details and select Continue to cancel, then choose a reason and select Continue.
- Read the cancellation details. This screen is where any early cancellation charge shows up, so read it before you go further.
- Select Confirm cancellation and keep the confirmation email Adobe sends.
Each Adobe plan is cancelled separately. If you also pay for Creative Cloud or a second Acrobat plan, cancelling Acrobat Pro leaves the others running. If you subscribed through Apple, Google or Microsoft, Adobe cannot cancel it for you: use that store's subscription settings.
Is there a fee to cancel Adobe Acrobat Pro?
Yes, on an annual plan cancelled after the first 14 days. Adobe's US subscription terms say that on an annual plan billed monthly, cancelling after 14 days means "you'll be charged a lump sum amount of 50% of your remaining contract obligation". Customers in California pay 30 percent of the annual commitment instead. A monthly plan has no fee.
| How you pay for Acrobat Pro | Price for one person | Cancel within 14 days | Cancel after 14 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Month to month | $29.99 a month | Full refund | No fee, access to the end of that month, no refund |
| Annual, billed monthly | $19.99 a month | Full refund | Lump sum of 50% of the remaining contract (30% of the annual commitment in California) |
| Annual, prepaid | $239.88 a year | Full refund | No fee, no refund, access to the end of the term |
To see what the fee means in dollars: three months into an annual plan billed monthly at $19.99, you have nine payments left, $179.91, and half of that is about $90. With one month left the fee is about $10. Adobe's terms also say that for automatically renewing US customers, after the first year the subscription "will automatically renew on a monthly basis until you cancel", so check the cancellation details screen for your exact figure rather than estimating it.
How do I cancel Adobe Pro without paying the fee?
There are two clean ways. Cancel inside the first 14 days after your first order, which Adobe refunds in full, or let an annual prepaid plan run to the end of its term, which costs nothing extra because the year is already paid. If you are on an annual plan billed monthly mid-contract, the fee applies, and the cheapest move is usually to cancel as close to the end of the contract year as you can, when the remaining amount is smallest.
How to cancel Acrobat Pro for teams
On a teams plan the subscription belongs to the company, and only an admin can change it. Members do not see a cancel option in their own accounts. The admin signs in to the Adobe Admin Console, opens the plan, and either reduces the number of licenses or cancels the plan. Adobe's US terms apply the same 14 day refund and the same 50 percent fee to teams plans on an annual plan billed monthly as to individual ones.
If only some people are leaving Acrobat, remove their licenses rather than cancelling the whole plan, so the people who still edit PDFs keep working.
What to save before your access ends
Adobe's help page says access to paid apps and services continues until the end of your current billing period, and your Adobe account stays open with the free membership benefits afterwards. Use that time to:
- Download every signed agreement and its audit report from the Acrobat Sign Manage page. The audit report is what proves who signed and when if a contract is ever disputed, so keep it with the signed PDF.
- Finish or cancel agreements still out for signature. Chase the signers now, or plan to send those documents again from whatever you use next.
- Copy any reusable templates and web forms as plain PDFs, because templates are an Acrobat Pro feature and will not move to another tool.
- Move files out of Adobe cloud storage that you want to keep on your own drive.
Free Adobe Acrobat Reader still opens PDFs and lets you fill and sign a document yourself. What it does not do is send a document to someone else for a tracked, legally binding signature with an audit trail.
What should you use instead of Acrobat Pro?
That depends on what Acrobat Pro was doing for you. Be honest about it before you pick, because the cheapest answer differs.
| What you still need | Cheapest sensible option | Yearly cost |
|---|---|---|
| PDF editing for one person, signing a few documents | Acrobat Standard, individual | $179.88 |
| PDF editing for a team | Acrobat Standard for teams | $203.88 per license |
| Only sending documents for signature, 2 or 3 people | SignSend Pro | $288 for up to 3 people |
| Only sending documents for signature, 4 to 10 people | SignSend Business | $588 for up to 10 people |
| API, Salesforce integration, signer identity checks | Acrobat Sign Solutions or DocuSign | Quoted |
If you are one person who edits PDFs, the honest answer is to downgrade to Acrobat Standard instead of leaving Adobe: at $179.88 a year it costs less than any signing-only plan and keeps the editor. Switching makes sense when several people hold Acrobat Pro licenses only to send contracts. Two Acrobat Pro team licenses cost $575.76 a year and three cost $863.64. SignSend Pro covers up to 3 people for $288 a year, or $49 month to month with no annual contract to break later. The Acrobat Sign for small business page works through those totals for 2 to 10 people, and our Adobe Acrobat Sign pricing page lists every Acrobat plan.
SignSend does less than Acrobat. It does not edit or convert PDFs, has no API and no CRM integrations, and takes one PDF up to 20 MB per send. What it does is the signing part: upload the PDF, add the signers, send, and your clients sign from a link without creating an account. You get reminders, a signing order, templates you can send again to new signers, and a certificate of completion with the full audit trail. The signatures are legally binding under the U.S. ESIGN Act and state UETA laws.
Should you cancel now or at renewal?
If you are inside the first 14 days, cancel now: the refund is full. If you are on an annual prepaid plan, cancel any time before the renewal date; you keep access to the end of the year you paid for and are not charged again. If you are mid-way through an annual plan billed monthly, work out the fee from the remaining payments and compare it with what you would save by switching. Many offices discover Acrobat is one of several per-seat tools nobody has reviewed in a while, and SaaS spend management software that lists every subscription you pay for makes that review a lot faster than reading card statements.
Whatever you decide, set up the replacement before the cancellation takes effect, send one live document through it, and only then confirm the cancellation. If you are leaving other signing tools too, our guides on cancelling a DocuSign subscription and signing a PDF without Adobe cover the next steps.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cancel Adobe Acrobat Pro at any time?
Yes, you can cancel at any time from Plans and payment in your Adobe account, but the cost depends on the plan. Monthly plans stop at the end of the month with no fee. Annual plans billed monthly charge 50 percent of the remaining contract after the first 14 days, and annual prepaid plans are not refunded after 14 days.
Will I get a refund if I cancel Adobe Acrobat Pro?
Only within 14 days of your initial order, when Adobe refunds in full. After that, monthly and annual prepaid payments are not refunded, and access continues to the end of the period you paid for.
What happens to my signed documents if I cancel Adobe Acrobat?
You keep access until the end of your billing period, so download every signed agreement and its audit report from Acrobat Sign before then. Your Adobe account stays open with free membership benefits, but the paid signing features stop.
Can I reactivate Adobe Acrobat Pro after cancelling?
Yes, while you are still inside the billing period. Adobe's help page says you can reactivate from your Adobe account and your apps, services and storage are restored, with billing continuing as scheduled.
